David Janer joins the cast of Sueños de libertad as Josema García Fuentes, an architect who arrives in Toledo with an established professional career and a personal history still marked by loss. His arrival connects him with the Salazars and the De la Reina perfumery, where he will help usher in a new chapter.
An architect with prior ties to the Salazars
Josema is a widower and, as Janer has explained in interviews, has been a longtime friend of Pablo and Nieves Salazar. He met them years ago and now gets back in touch after settling in Toledo. His arrival, therefore, does not start from scratch: it brings him into a family with which he already shares a history and opens the door to new encounters and clashes.
The character also brings a different perspective to the community. Janer describes him as an open and cheerful man, although he has unresolved matters in his private life. The actor has avoided revealing the source of this burden or how it will affect Josema’s relationships, as the character’s development will depend on the series’ storylines.
In an interview with El Mundo, Janer clarified that he does not expect his character to transform the entire world of the show on his own. In his view, Josema will bring “a different kind of freshness” and “less rigidity,” but will not necessarily arrive with the ability to impose his will.
A return to daily drama series
For Janer, joining the show also means returning to a format he already knows. The actor has explained that he is drawn to the pace of daily drama series and the possibility of a character changing as he interacts with others. Unlike a story whose course is set from the beginning, he points out, new twists and relationships can emerge in a daily series and alter a character’s development.
The actor has also highlighted that he is joining a familiar team: some members of the technical crew worked with him on Amar es para siempre. In comments to verTele, he described this continuity as an advantage when it comes to settling in and said he had felt warmly welcomed. Even so, he acknowledged the “vertigo” of joining an established series and meeting the expectations of viewers who know him from earlier roles.
Janer is especially remembered for his roles in Águila Roja and Amar es para siempre. Speaking about the former, he has said that the connection he formed with the audience endures and that viewers still tell him how they experienced the series. In Sueños de libertad, by contrast, he takes on a more down-to-earth character whose story is still unfolding.
