The average price of electricity on Spain’s wholesale market stood at €196.88/MWh on Monday, October 5, 2026, according to data attributed to the Iberian Energy Market Operator (OMIE) by Tarifaluzhora and La Razón. Tarifaluzhora puts the increase at 14.57% compared with the previous day, when the average was €171.85/MWh.
The regulated PVPC tariff, by contrast, recorded an average of €222.98/MWh, according to Red Eléctrica data cited by NoticiasTrabajo. The difference reflects the fact that these are separate benchmarks: the SPOT wholesale price does not, by itself, include all the components that go into the price of electricity consumption, whereas the PVPC incorporates other items, such as tolls, charges, and taxes.
The cheapest and most expensive hours
On the wholesale market, the cheapest period was 14:00 to 15:00, at €130.55/MWh. The highest price came between 20:00 and 21:00, when it reached €268.39/MWh. The curve fell during the middle hours of the afternoon and rose sharply again from 16:00 onward.
For the PVPC, NoticiasTrabajo also places the lowest price between 14:00 and 15:00, but at €125.40/MWh. The highest price was between 20:00 and 21:00, at €368.52/MWh. In this benchmark, prices rose particularly sharply toward the end of the afternoon: they reached €359.80/MWh between 19:00 and 20:00, before hitting the peak.

What these figures mean for businesses
The figures make it possible to identify the periods with the highest and lowest prices for each benchmark, but they do not, on their own, determine the cost of electricity for every business. The impact on a bill depends on the type of contract and its terms; moreover, wholesale market amounts are not directly equivalent to the final price paid by a consumer.
The figure of €197.48/MWh shown in the data consulted corresponds to a specific PVPC hour: the period from 13:00 to 14:00. It is not an alternative wholesale-market average to €196.88/MWh. The indicators should be kept separate, and each figure attributed to its respective benchmark: the OMIE SPOT market average and the PVPC average price are different values, and the hourly figure of €197.48/MWh belongs to the latter.
