Audiobooks in the app

Spotify has launched its audiobook service in Spain with a catalog of more than 350,000 titles in over 120 languages, including Spanish. The offering has been available since October 7, 2026, and is integrated into the app alongside music and podcasts.

The company presents the launch as part of an international expansion that aims to bring audiobooks to more than 180 markets before the end of 2026. This figure is Spotify’s announced target, not the number of markets already covered.

Which plans include listening hours, and who can use them

Some Premium customers have 12 hours of listening per month at no additional cost. This applies to Premium Individual and the Duo and Family plans, but for the latter two, the time is available only to the person who manages the shared subscription. The other members do not receive their own hours and cannot use the administrator’s hours. Student plans are excluded from this benefit, according to the published information about the service terms.

The hours are calculated based on the audiobook’s duration, not the actual time it takes to listen to it: speeding up playback does not reduce the hours deducted. Listening to a section again also uses up time, and unused hours do not roll over to the following month.

Once the monthly limit is reached, it is possible to wait for the renewal, purchase an individual title, or subscribe to Audiobooks+. This additional subscription costs €8.99 per month and adds up to 15 hours of listening. An audiobook purchase is paid for separately and, according to coverage of the launch, does not deduct hours from the plan.

A feature for switching between reading and listening

The app includes Page Match—also introduced as “Find the Page”—which lets users continue listening from the point they have reached in a physical or electronic copy. Users scan the ISBN and indicate the relevant page to locate the corresponding section of the audiobook.

Title pages provide information about the work, its duration, and a sample before users choose it. Saved books are available in the app’s library.

A model based on non-exclusive agreements

Spotify says its partnerships with authors and publishers are non-exclusive, meaning the same title may also be available on other services. The company argues that the expansion could help more readers discover audiobooks and broaden the reach of authors and publishers; this is an expectation expressed by the company, not an outcome that has already been measured.

Availability in Spain therefore combines a monthly allowance limited to certain subscribers, additional paid options, and the possibility of purchasing books separately. For publishing companies and rights holders, the launch opens another distribution channel on a major audio platform, although the commercial terms of the agreements are not detailed in the available information.
