An acquisition that adds local production

Europastry completed its acquisition of Chilean company Alicomer, owner of the Pan de Origen brand, and is thereby starting local production in Chile. The Spanish group, which specializes in bakery and pastry products, already had commercial operations in the country; the acquisition adds a manufacturing base and a position in the rustic bread segment.

The transaction price has not been made public. The company has also not specified what stake it acquired. El Economista reports that it acquired a majority stake, without specifying the percentage, but this figure does not appear in all available reports.

Rustic bread, sourdough, and market knowledge

Alicomer operates under the Pan de Origen brand and makes ciabattas, rustic breads, and functional breads, including sourdough and slow-fermented products. According to Europa Press, Europastry presents the two businesses as complementary: the group contributes its technological expertise, while Alicomer brings its market experience and knowledge of Chilean consumers.

The deal also connects the acquired company’s range with the commercial network Europastry already had in Chile, serving hospitality customers, bakeries, and other retailers, according to El Economista. For the group, the acquisition opens a path to regional expansion; by itself, it does not make it possible to predict how much sales will grow or what results the integration will produce.

No confirmed production figure

Published reports differ on Alicomer’s output: Expansión cites around 30,000 kilos of bread per year, while El Economista puts the combined production of two plants at close to 30,000 kilos per day. As the accounts do not match and the company does not provide a figure in the cited announcement that would resolve the discrepancy, it is not possible to establish a confirmed output figure here.

Europastry executive chairman Jordi Gallés said that the addition of Alicomer and Pan de Origen «opens up new opportunities to continue growing in Latin America» and, in his words, reinforced the group’s commitment to innovation, quality, and international growth. This is the company’s assessment of the deal, not a guarantee of future results.

The acquisition adds to Europastry’s international expansion, which has also included the acquisition of U.S.-based Highland Baking, according to published reports. In Alicomer’s case, the company has not disclosed the price or a more detailed integration schedule, so the economic scope of the deal cannot be determined from the available information.
