Jaguar unveiled the Type 01 in New York, the first production model of its new era. The vehicle embodies the brand’s shift toward a luxury electric lineup: it is a four-door, four-seat GT with a 118 kWh battery and a claimed output of up to 1,030 PS.

The unveiling marks the transition from the Type 00 concept to a car intended for production. According to published information, it will be designed, developed and manufactured in the United Kingdom, and will be the first model based on Jaguar’s new electric architecture.

A large GT with distinctive design

The Type 01 measures 5.235 meters long and is just 1.403 meters tall. Jaguar has opted for a long hood, a low roof and a solid rear end. The body dispenses with a conventional rear window and uses a digital rear-view mirror with a camera. The cabin is arranged around four individual seats.

The design also eschews interiors crowded with screens: the available information describes a 24-inch main screen, a second seven-inch touchscreen and physical controls. The layout aims to combine a minimalist presentation with separate spaces for each occupant.

Power and charging: claimed figures, not real-world results

The all-wheel-drive system combines three electric motors and delivers, according to Jaguar, up to 1,030 PS and 1,365 Nm of torque. The brand puts the 0-to-100 km/h acceleration time at 3.2 seconds. The battery uses an 850-volt architecture; on DC, the car would support charging at up to 350 kW.

Jaguar forecasts a range of up to 720 kilometers. El Periódico attributes this figure to the WLTP cycle, but Electrive notes that official WLTP figures have not yet been published; City A.M. also says the official figures from UK tests are still pending. The coverage therefore differs on whether the 720-kilometer forecast is already a homologation figure. The brand also claims that a fast charge can add up to 321 kilometers in 13 minutes. These are manufacturer estimates, not a guarantee of performance on every route or under every charging condition.

Expected pricing and schedule

Published prices vary by market. City A.M.’s UK coverage puts the starting price at £130,000; reports on Germany mention €165,000 and warn that the final price may be confirmed later. These amounts are not directly interchangeable: they apply to different markets.

Jaguar expects to open orders in early 2027 and begin deliveries in the second half of that year. Both the schedule and commercial terms will therefore need to be confirmed for each country.

Jaguar’s business strategy

The Type 01 is also central to the brand’s transformation. City A.M. frames the launch as Jaguar’s attempt to leave the volume competition and focus on vehicles with higher prices and positioning. The outlet says the company is looking to attract new buyers, but warns that registering interest is not the same as placing an order and does not guarantee sales.

City A.M.’s assessment of the chances of success is editorial opinion, not an established outcome. Jaguar’s business challenge will be to turn the attention generated by the design and new strategy into actual demand, while finalizing the model’s specifications, pricing and availability in different markets.
