Argentina's market recorded 8,322 hybrid vehicle registrations in September 2026, 18.1% more than in August and 161% above September of the previous year. From January to September, 60,129 units were recorded, a year-over-year increase of 246.6%, according to ACARA data cited by industry media.
The increase came in a month of strong expansion for electrified vehicles as a whole. In addition to hybrids, there were 865 all-electric vehicles, bringing registrations in both categories to 9,187. Electric vehicles also grew compared with August and the same month in 2025, although they started from a lower volume.
Two comparisons that measure different market segments
The figures released do not always describe the same segment of the market. The 8,322 registrations correspond to the total hybrid segment and make it possible to compare September with August or with the same month in 2025. By contrast, Infobae examined passenger cars—conventional models and SUVs—and reported that, within that comparison, hybrid sales grew 118% from August.
That 118% should not be confused with the 18.1% monthly increase for the total segment: they refer to different market segments. The difference also matters when interpreting comparisons with equivalent gasoline models, which are part of the passenger-car analysis and do not, on their own, represent the entire hybrid market.
Ford Territory Hybrid topped the model rankings
Among hybrid models, the Ford Territory recorded 1,072 units in September, up from 823 in August. With 7,650 registrations accumulated in the first nine months of the year, it also topped the annual ranking cited in news coverage.
The Toyota Corolla Cross recorded 734 units in September and the Toyota Yaris Cross, 673. They were followed by the BAIC BJ30, with 599, and the Chery Tiggo 7, with 588. The figures show a broader range of offerings and competition that now includes both traditional brands and manufacturers of Chinese origin; on their own, they do not make it possible to attribute the growth to a single brand or commercial policy.
More models and new entrants
News coverage also highlighted the progress of models such as the Chevrolet Captiva plug-in hybrid, the BYD Song Pro, and the MG ZS. Meanwhile, all-electric vehicle data reflect a strong presence of Chinese brands: BYD recorded 565 electric vehicles in September, and the Dolphin Mini, 495. These figures belong to the electric segment and should not be added to those for hybrid models when comparing rankings.
The import program with an annual quota of up to 50,000 vehicles exempt from tariffs is mentioned in reports as context for the arrival of imported models. However, the available figures do not show that this mechanism, on its own, explains the growth in hybrid registrations. There are also models, such as the Toyotas mentioned in the coverage, that are sold outside the program.
The clearest signal in September, therefore, is the expansion of hybrids in both the monthly and year-over-year comparisons. To track their progress, it is useful to distinguish the total segment from breakdowns by vehicle type and to observe how registrations by model change in the coming months.
