More passengers and freight, with differences between markets
GNV reported carrying around 2.2 million passengers between January and September 2026, 2% more than in the same period of 2025. Over those nine months, it handled 1.84 million linear metres of freight, up 5% year on year. These figures were released by the company; the available information does not present them as audited results.
Performance varied by route. On connections to the Italian islands, GNV reported increases of 8% in Sicily and 6% in Sardinia. According to published data on its African markets, Algeria maintained the positive trend of the past year, while passenger traffic with Morocco and Tunisia remained at levels similar to those in 2025. The Balearic Islands and Albania also remained virtually stable.
Four vessels planned, with the first expected before the end of 2027
The shipping company announced the names of four ferries that will be progressively added to its fleet: GNV Jupiter, GNV Mars, GNV Venus and GNV Mercury. All four will be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and are part of the company’s vessel renewal programme.
The GNV Jupiter, currently under construction at Guangzhou Shipyard International in China, is the first in the series. GNV expects to add it to its fleet before the end of 2027. The company stated that it will have capacity for 2,500 passengers, 3,500 linear metres of freight and 500 cabins. The announced date is a forecast, not a guarantee that it will enter service.
Tourism partnership with Morocco for 2027–2029
GNV and the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT) formalised a three-year agreement to promote travel to Morocco and strengthen maritime connections with Europe. The plan includes campaigns in European markets, destination promotion initiatives and packages combining the ferry journey with the country’s tourist attractions.
Italy will play a prominent role. The ONMT reported that Morocco welcomed 1.15 million Italian tourists in 2025, approximately 15% of whom arrived by sea. For the period covered by the agreement, the organisations have set a target of reaching 350,000 passengers departing from Italy. This is a target announced by the ONMT, not a result already achieved.
The plan for Italy includes media campaigns, promotion with content creators and destination marketing through GNV’s network of affiliated agencies. The partnership thus combines tourism promotion and transport in a market that the shipping company considers important for tourism and trade, as well as for travel by Moroccan citizens living in Europe.
